Not every roofing job is a full re-roof, and a lot of roofers quietly avoid the smaller, fiddlier work — skylights, patio roofs, sheds, the odd one-off problem. We’re not one of them. If it’s roofing, we’ll take a look and give you a straight answer and a fair price.
These jobs matter more than their size suggests. A leaking skylight or patio junction can do just as much damage to a ceiling as a fault on the main roof, and a failing shed roof can cost a fortune in ruined equipment or feed. The reason other roofers shy away is usually that specialty work is fiddly and doesn’t fit a neat template — which is exactly why it needs someone who’ll take the time to do it properly rather than rush it.
Specialty work we take on
- Skylight installation — into tile and metal roofs, flashed properly so they light up your home without ever leaking
- Patio & verandah roofing — repairs, re-sheeting and replacement, including the tricky flashing where the patio meets the house
- Shed & rural roofing — re-sheeting and repairs for sheds, workshops, barns and outbuildings, built tough for Downs conditions
- One-off & unusual jobs — carports, pergolas, awnings and the problems that don’t fit a neat category
Skylights: free light, done right
A skylight can completely change a dark hallway, bathroom or living space — turning on the lights becomes a daytime afterthought. But skylights also have a reputation for leaking, and that reputation is entirely down to bad flashing. Install and flash one properly and it’s watertight for the life of the roof. That’s how we do them.
Patios, sheds and everything rural
Out here, patio roofs, sheds and farm buildings are part of life — and they take the same beating from sun, hail and wind as the house does. We repair and re-sheet patio and verandah roofs, and we re-roof sheds and outbuildings in durable metal roofing that’ll outlast the next few storm seasons.
The specialty jobs we take on most
Every specialty job is a bit different, but these are the ones we’re called out for again and again across Toowoomba and the Downs:
- Skylights and roof windows — into both tile and metal roofs. A well-placed skylight transforms a dark hallway, bathroom, kitchen or living area, cutting your daytime lighting and lifting the whole feel of a room. The entire job hinges on the flashing kit and how it’s installed, which is precisely where we don’t cut corners.
- Patio and verandah roofing — repairs, re-sheeting and new covers. These roofs cop the same sun and storms as the main roof but are often an afterthought, so they’re a frequent source of leaks where the patio meets the house. We sort the sheeting and, just as importantly, the flashing at that wall junction.
- Shed, barn and outbuilding roofs — bread-and-butter work out on the acreage and farms. We re-sheet and repair workshops, machinery sheds, hay sheds and rural outbuildings in tough metal roofing built for the conditions.
- Carports, pergolas and awnings — the smaller structures that still need to be watertight and properly fixed against the Downs wind.
If your job doesn’t fit neatly into a category, that’s exactly the kind of thing we like — tell us what you’ve got and we’ll work out how to do it properly.
How we approach a specialty job
Specialty work rewards care over speed, so we don’t rush it. Every job starts with an on-site assessment — we measure up, look at how the new element ties into the existing roof, and work out the right approach for your specific situation. A skylight into a tile roof is a different job to one into a metal roof; a patio that abuts the house needs different flashing detailing to a free-standing one; a farm shed re-sheet has its own structural considerations. We figure all of that out before we quote, so there are no nasty surprises once we start.
From there it’s the same disciplined process whatever the job: protect the surrounding area, do the structural and waterproofing work properly, flash and seal every junction, and clean up completely before we leave. The flashing and sealing is where specialty jobs live or die — it’s the difference between a skylight that lights up your home for decades and one that drips every time it rains — so it’s where we take the most care.
The materials we use
Specialty jobs are exactly where cheap materials come back to bite, so we don’t use them. For skylights we fit quality, properly flashed units suited to your roof type rather than the cheapest tube light on the shelf. For patio and verandah re-sheets we use Colorbond and quality metal roofing in a colour to match or complement your home. Sheds and outbuildings get durable metal roofing chosen to last in the Darling Downs sun and storms, fixed with the correct screws and fasteners — not whatever’s in the bottom of the truck.
Around every penetration and junction we use quality flashings and roofing-grade sealants designed to flex and hold up under UV, because that’s the part that fails first when corners are cut.
Straight talk on pricing
Because specialty jobs are often one-offs, you won’t find a fixed “menu price” for them — and any roofer who quotes one sight-unseen is guessing. What you’ll get from us is an honest, itemised quote after we’ve actually looked at the job, with the scope and the price spelled out in plain English before any work starts. No vague estimates that balloon halfway through, and no charging premium rates just because a job is a bit unusual. We back the work with our standard written workmanship guarantee, the same as any other job.
If you’ve got a roofing job that other roofers have shrugged off, get in touch — chances are it’s exactly the kind of thing we’re happy to sort.
